Showcasing my Technology Skills
Throughout this module, UMD4995 New and Emerging Technologies, we have been discussing and researching not only the present and futuristic technologies but how they all started as well.
Eventually, I intend to become a teacher so this is why my portfolio is quite significant. Not only will I be using it to showcase everything I have learnt through this module but how certain types of technology can be useful within a classroom setting; whether it's for the teacher or pupil.

Online Classes- Adobe Connect
Traditionally, learning takes place in a classroom, however, more learning is taking place online. During this module, we were given the opportunity to take part in a class, from the comfort of our own homes, via the Internet and a program called Adobe Connect. Whilst the teachers asked us questions, we were able to reply by typing in to a chat window.
This idea of teaching and learning is ideal for many students and teachers. If there is an issue that arises that stops a pupil or teacher attending school, Adobe Connect means that they would not miss the class. This online classroom also has a feature that records the whole session of people talking and you are able to copy everything that is typed on to the screens, to view again at a later date.

Google Docs
This is another app, courtesy of Google. It is very similar to the form in the way that it is fully online and fully editable also. The Google Doc can be accessed by a classroom full of children all at the same time and allows for editing by all. It has it's own 'live feed' so that all pupils who are viewing are able to watch it being edited as pupils are typing. An example that this could be used in a classroom setting is if a question has been put to the pupils and instead of each pupil raising their hands to answer it, or write down their ideas, they are able to type up their answers at the same time.
Google Form
Google Form is available courtesy of Google. When you sign up to a Google account, you have access to a number of apps, including this one. Instead of creating a conventional questionnaire by hand on paper, you can create one online. Google already gives you the layout, you just type in the question, choose which type of answers you would like and it creates a questionnaire for you. Once completed you can email it to respondents and answers are emailed back to you.
This can be useful for pupils carrying out their own research in class, through the use of questionnaires. Less time is needed to create them, less paper is needed, its online so harder to lose, plus instead of handing them all out individually and chasing respondents for them back once completed, they are simply emailed straight back to you.

Debate Graph
This is an online tool that enables users to create a mind map. It is fully interactive which allows other users to edit and look in to specific topics in further detail. This could be an essential tool for pupils and teachers to use within the classroom. Pupils could collaborate, edit and add ideas together, which would be saved all in one place and fully accessible from anywhere on any computer.
Pinterest
This is most probably one of my all time favourite apps. There's so much you can do
with it and get so many great ideas with it. I have about ten different folders
that I have pinned various pictures and links. It is a pin board style website
that allows you to share a wide variety of photos and manage them within folders
according to their topic.
This app could be particularly useful in a classroom setting. by enabling pupils to set up their own account, they could create different pin boards and use it as a research project or to collect and save information, pictures, etc to use in a research project.
